A decision aid is a tool designed for patient use that includes the information researchers know from studies of the natural history of the disease within large groups of women.

Why use a decision aid?

A decision aid is sometimes beneficial for patients and caregivers making a decision under uncertainty.

What information should I make sure I enter?

The information you should make sure you know when you visit this site includes your estrogen receptor status, the possibility that if your cancer spread and became ‘invasive’ it would return and the chance that your DCIS could return, also known as risk levels. You will be asked some personal information. You will also be asked information from the biopsy sample that was part of your diagnosis. You can get the information needed from your doctor or medical record.

How many treatments can I choose?

You can choose as many treatments as you want. However, if you are estrogen receptor negative you will not be eligible for hormonal therapy.

Can I re-enter my information and get outcomes as many times as I want?

Yes, you may enter your information as many times as you want, however, you only need to enter your information once to get the treatment results you are eligible for.

What if I answered "I don't know"?

If you answered I don't know for one of the questions in the "Tell us About Yourself" section, the responses you received were based on the standard of care for patients with DCIS and the most common response for that question.
